EAST AND MID DEVON COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERSHIP

As part of Safer Devon, the East and Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership (CSP) works with a variety of agencies and elected members from the East Devon and Mid Devon District Councils. Members of this CSP are invited to attend partnership meetings in order to forge and maintain effective local working relationships.

East & Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership works to deliver Safer Communities, build Community Resilience and improve lives. We focus on reducing violence, abuse and exploitation through prevention, early intervention and the reduction of re-offending.

We are committed to:

  • The use of ACEs/Trauma as a lens to understand how harm can take place within relationships and the community
  • Developing Person Centred Approaches to Community Safety in line with the priorities outlined in the 2019-20 Devon Strategic Assessment of Crime and Disorder
  • Equitable, timely and evidence based interventions

In East Devon, there are five geographical local action groups (LAGs), each of which has an action plan designed to tackle issues that are specific to their areas. These groups meet every two months. In Mid Devon information and briefing sessions are held in localities to provide information about current issues and crime trends.  Both districts are currently in the process of developing Safer Towns (link to ‘Safer Towns’ section further down the page – see next slide) under the scheme promoted by the Devon & Cornwall Police & Crime Commissioner which will be launched during 2020.

In addition to these specific district activities the East and Mid Devon CSP and the Exeter CSP hold a joint sexual violence and domestic abuse forum which meets quarterly and is attended by representatives from a number of agencies.

PRIORITIES

The priorities for East and Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership are:

  • Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence and Abuse, and other Sexual Offences
  • Extra-familial Youth Risk and Vulnerability
  • Problem Alcohol & Drug Use
  • Exploitation (including Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking and Radicalisation & Extremism)
  • Violent Crime

As resources across all partner agencies become more stretched our approach to addressing these key areas will remain committed to investing our energy into areas where we can add best value.  We are committed to working across partner agencies to develop and adopt a ‘trauma-informed’ approach. This approach will encourage practitioners and staff to recognise that many service users and community members have experienced traumatic events and experiences which may continue to impact on their daily living, life choices, activities and actions.

Members of the partnership include:

  • East Devon District Council
  • Mid Devon District Council
  • Devon & Cornwall Police
  • Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service
  • Devon Partnership NHS Trust
  • Public Health Devon
  • The Probation Service
  • The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner Devon & Cornwall
